Sunset at Muriwai (again)

 

Peering out the window and thinking to myself "there might be a good sunset in 40 minutes" when I'm a 30 minute drive from where I'd like capture it is always going to result in a slightly nerve wrenching drive.

But at the end of the day, scampering over the rocks and plonking myself in what I thought was the best spot, while keeping out of the way of my fellow photographers who'd had the forethought to get there earlier, has resulted in an image I'm actually quite proud of.

Blown up large there is actually bags of detail here, most notably the three couples and 1 fisherman who all remained still enough to add a fair bit of extra interest and scale into the image.

Piha Stream

I captured this image some time ago, almost exactly a year ago in fact, and it has sat here un-posted ever since.

I like it, usually pictures of Piha focus around Lion Rock but I was drawn to this stream and the way it leads the eye into the ocean and sky in the back ground.

The Temples of Bagan at Dusk

 

"Hey, remember that time you went to Mayanmar and came back to New Zealand and slowly began sharing the pictures you took?"

"Yeah?"

"Well why don't you post some more of them?

"What, like this one?"

This image was taken shortly after sunset from up the Shwesndaw temple in Bagan, which is THE place to be at sunset in Bagan and is literally crawling with tourists, but that's ok, I have a rule: Never complain about the amount of tourists at a site while being a tourist yourself, you look like an asshat.

I'm pretty sure the temple in the distance is the Thatbyinnyu Temple

Lake Taupo, Anzac Weekend

ANZAC weekend was a few weeks ago now but I did spend it down in Motuopa on the shores of Lake Taupo and the weather did clear long enough for me to get a few photos. The top picture of the wee swirl of rocks as the sun sets over Lake Taupo was taken on the eve on ANZAC day. Imagine my delight when I stumbled upon this almost perfect curve of rocks on the shore of Mission Bay, I didn't even have to get my feet wet as I was perched on top of a much bigger boulder. I did leave my camera strap on the beach though.

The bottom two shots were from the following morning. The first is of the Tongariro River at dawn, didn't the fishermen stay still for 15 seconds! The wharf at the bottom is the Motuopa jetty taken about 45 minutes later. I was back home in time for a lie in!
